WW1 VICTORY MEDAL TO AN OBSERVER WHO SERVED WITH 10 SQUADRON IN 1918

VICTORY MEDAL ‘2/LIEUT T. G. EVANS. R.A.F.’

Thomas George Evans was born on 8 July 1899 and initially served as Private, No 26883 in the 69th Training Reserve Battalion in late 1917. Attending various Schools of Aviation from January 1918, he was Gazetted Temporary 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Air Force as a Flying Officer (Observer) on 18 June 1918. Joining 10 Squadron in France on 20 June 1918, this squadron had been equipped with Armstrong Whitworth FK8’s (Big Aks) since 1917 but were beginning to be equipped with Bristol F.2b. The squadron played a significant role in the Second Battle of the Somme and engaging in operations such as flash spotting, reconnaissance, and bombing. The squadron also carried out low-level attacks against ground targets and German positions.

Evans was transferred to the Unemployment List on 26 May 1919. Further entitled to the British War medal only.
