SOUTH AFRICA 1877-79, CLASP, 1879 ‘CONDR. D. MILLER. COMMISSARIAT.’
Conductor of Supplies David Miller served in the Zulu war of 1879. His Army List entry for 1899 shows he was Commissioned Quartermaster on 25 April 1885 and by 1899 had retired with the rank of Honorary Lieutenant.
Miller’s exact service has not been researched but it is likely he was a senior NCO before transferring to the Commissariat and Transport Staff, before later being Commissioned. The rank of Conductor at the time of the Zulu War was that of a junior Officer, all commissioned officers being senior.
During the Zulu War, Conductors would be present in every column, with many Special Service Officers performing the role of Transport Officer.
Condition VF, some small EK’s and contact wear.
