Register for discharged soldiers in WO121 lists Sergeant Faithorn as having enlisted on 7 July 1871 and being discharged from the Army on 27 December 1884.
The 1st King’s Dragoon Guards served in the second invasion of Zululand. Elements served at the battle of Ulundi and the capture of the Zulu King Later serving in the Sekukuni Campaign, a small number remained in South Africa during the 1st Boer War, these men formed the core of the mounted infantry squadron.
