A WW1 German M16 helmet which has been struck by a bullet which has entered through the back of the helmet near where the liner rivet was and exited at front of the helmet leaving a large ‘peeled-open’ hole. The helmet has also suffered what appears to have been a shrapnel strike to the top of the crown, leaving dents and an entry hole.
Both chinstrap ends are still attached to the M91 side posts but the liner and retaining pins are missing. Iner skirt has a ‘G62’ stamp. Helmet retains a fair amount of its apple green paint to the rear 2/3rds of the helmet, the front half is mostly oxidised with some light surface rust. Presumably the helmet lay in the ground peak first for some time before retrieved however only long enough to affect the paint at the front and leather parts. The helmet itself pretty much as solid as when first produced.
