This very scarce Type 90 Japanese combat helmet is field painted black over its original olive green paint finish. These black painted helmets are often described as being night raid helmets. The majority of black paint finish remains with the original olive green finish showing through in worn areas. There are few blue specs of paint to crown of the helmet which I have not attempted to remove. Inside of shell retains its full olive green paint finish.
The three pad pigskin liner and band is complete to the interior, all supple with just a small 2cm tear to the seam of one pad where it attaches to the band and one tong has a split at the end. The liner pads each have their original cloth padding and the chinstrap system is complete and undamaged. Both side split pin rivet heads have come away or were removed, this clearly after the helmet received its dark paint at least as a rusty colour outline of where the discs were. Rest of the split pin is in place and liner is secure to the helmet.
An extremely good condition example of this very scarce helmet.
