762248 Private Patick Lutman Sevenoaks served in France with the 1/28th London Regiment (Artists Rifles) between 4 November 1916 and 30 October 1917. He was Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Indian Army Reserve on 30 August 1918, to date from 1 May 1918 and confirmed to Indian Army with that rank on 5 February 1919. The 1919 Indian Army List shows him serving with the 1st Battalion, 26th Punjab Regiment. Serving with the 2d Battalion 69th Punjab Regiment on the North-West Frontier and Waziristan, he was promoted Lieutenant on 1 February 1920.
Lieutenant Sevenoaks was wounded in action on 11 December 1921 whilst serving in the North-West Frontier. On this date, 500 tribesmen attacked a British convoy consisting of 3 companies of the 2/69th Punjabis, 1 of the 2/3 Gurkhas and 2 guns, which was proceeding from Datten Khel to Mahommed Khel in the Tochi Valley. After a fierce fight, during which the British sustained heavy casualties totalling 70 men, including 2 Officers killed and 3 wounded, before driving off the enemy.
Promoted Captain, 3rd Battalion 16th Punjab Regiment in 1925, he died whilst serving in the same battalion, with the same rank on 12 August 1935. Noted as the son of Mr and Mrs R L Sevenoaks of Sringar, Kashmir.
Victory medal was issued by the British Government, his War Medal was issued by the India Office. Confirmed on MIC and rolls. This accounts for the differences in the rank.
