LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK AND HUMANE SOCIETY, MARINE MEDAL IN SILVER THE FIRST OFFICER OF “BARCORE” FOR HIS GALLANT SERVICE ON 8TH DECEMBER 1906

LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK AND HUMANE SOCIETY, MARINE MEDAL, 3RD TYPE, SILVER ‘TO MR ALBERT TRANENT, FIRST OFFICER SHIP “BARCORE” FOR GALLANT SERVICE, 8TH DEC. 1906’, WITH SILVER BUCKLE, IN OLDFIELD, LIVERPOOL CASE OF ISSUE.

The Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society, Marine Medal in silver, Binoculars and a Vote of Thanks was awarded to Albert Tranent, First Officer of the Liverpool ship “Barcore” for his Gallantry on 8th December 1906. On 6th December, the United States ship “Great Admiral” broke up during heavy gales. Two days later, Barcore sighted a mass of wreckage with people clinging to it. Despite the gales, sleet and hail, Barcore’s life boat set off to attempt a rescue, manned by volunteers and commanded by First Officer Tranent. 15 of the crew were saved including the Captain, Mate and also the Mate’s wife. 2 other members of the crew had died of exposure.
