SOUTH AFRICA 1877-9, CLASP 1879 ‘29/385. PTE L. EDWARDS. 58TH FOOT’
During the Zulu War, the 58th, along with the 1/13th formed right side of the square, through which the 17th Lancers charged to complete the victory. The 58th suffered 15 casualties, the second highest of any Regiment at the battle. They further went on to serve in the First Boer War, where they took a part in the battle of Laings Nek and suffered terrible casualties when they were the last British Regiment to take their Colours into battle. They also took a part in the battles of Ingogo River and Majuba Hill.
Condition, suspension slightly loose, otherwise GVF, with an attractive patina. Sold together with research on the 58th and a medal roll.
