I have been a keen collector of medals and Militaria since my first purchase of a SA 1879 medal in 1983. During a slowdown in collecting medals in the 1990’s I built up a large collection of WW1 aviation militaria. A hobby that was initially fuelled by my work as a sculptor of model soldiers and later the running of my own business ‘Jager Miniatures’. A company in which I produced model soldiers and WW1 aircraft kits.
During the latter end of ‘Jager Miniatures’, as a side line I took my hobby and experience
of
collecting WW1 aviation militaria to dealing in it and eventually this became much more successful than the model company. Very quickly I realised I had a conflict of interest and sold most of my
aviation collection and concentrated collecting British campaign medals again, although my
passion for WW1 aviation has never waned and I have helped out in
a number
of publications.
Since closing Jager in early 2004 I have been trading in WW1 aviation militaria, in particular photograph albums and freelance sculpting full time. The vast majority of my sales going to contacts I have built up over the years.
As a medal collector, to fuel new purchases, as with most of us, I have always had to sell when I wished to purchase something new. I have in the last few years began to enjoy this side of things more and more, although letting go of fantastic medals is hard, the opportunity to research new pieces has become more and more of a passion. As such I’ve finally decided to add the selling of medals to my business.
