MAHARAJPOOR STAR 1843

A SCARCE MAHARAJPOOR STAR 1843 TO A PRIVATE OF THE 40TH WHO WAS WOUNDED BY A MUSKET BALL TO THE NECK AT THE BATTLE OF MAHARAJPOOR

MAHARAJPOOR STAR 1843 ‘PRIVATE MICHAEL NOON H.M. 40TH REGT.’

Michael Noon, an 18 year old labourer from Fuerty, Roscommon, Ireland, enlisted into the 40th Foot on 28 November 1836.

He was “Present at the battle of Maharajpoor .. 29th December 1843. Granted a medal inscribed Candahar, Ghuznee, Cabul 1842 for service in the afghan campaign. Granted a bronze star for Mahrajpore. Wounded 29th December at the battle of Maharajore- musket ball right side of neck.

Regarding his conduct “He was tried by Regimental Court Martial 12th October 1840 for habitual drunkenness from which period his general character has been very good.

A lengthy medical assessment details his treatment for the musket ball wound and how it has impaired his movement which was the reason for his discharge on 12 July 1845. Additional entitled to the Cabul medal as noted.

Condition VF, fitted with neat split ring and loop suspension. Sold with a fine file of research including service papers, details of campaign etc.
